Epic Mallorca cycling

EPIC MALLORCA CYCLING

Serra Tramuntana self bike trip

Epic Mallorca cycling is a journey to the Mediterranean island of Mallorca to experience island life with a Spanish twist.

Remarkable beauty is just the beginning on the Mallorca Bike Tour in Spain.

Cycle on roads where dramatic cliffs drop off from both sides and offer sweeping views of the sea.

Climb high into the mountain range: The Serra de Tramuntana forms the northern backbone of the Majorca.

This mountain range was awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO.

Summiting Puig de Massanella, the mountain’s second highest peak, is a popular excursion.

Are you up for the challenge of climbing 4,475 feet?

Visit the historic monastery and wander the steep, narrow streets of Valdemossa.

Bask in the sunshine along the sparkling coast. You’ll be delighted by the quiet, traffic-free country roads.

It is a circular route that takes you through mountains, wonderful vineyards, cultivations and pastures.

With its exceptional and characteristic interior – rural – Majorcan houses.

The circuit is divided into 5 stages of an average of 60-80 km through secondary paths and roads. Each stage ends in a small town or village with luxury accommodation.

Highlights

  • Cycling along the north the stunning Tramuntana mountain range ride where the pro team train
  • Exploring Deja, pretty coastal village dedicated to music and art with a reputation of foreign artists’ colony
  • Lounging and swimming at Formentor beach after the bike ride to the light house at cap.
  • Enjoying unforgettably fresh seafood,  organically farmed meats and vegetables & fusion tapas.
  • Art in Palma town: Miro, Dali and Picasso.

DAY BY DAY

Day 1 – Welcome Mallorca- Palma

Arrive in Palma and transfer to the hotel on your own.
The travel begins from Palma, it gives you the opportunity to discover the most attractive places and monuments of the island of Mallorca’s capital.
The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the old town, in the traditional fishing district of Puig San Pere.
Just relax, take in the local lifestyle and enjoy the picture perfect scenery.
Our local representative will meet you at the hotel for your orientation in late afternoon.

Day 2 – PALMA TO CAMPANET VIA ALARO’

The bike ride start in the city and you will exit riding along long stretches of dedicated cycle lanes – a cycle path.
That is good so you will be north of Palma and take secondary road.
Distance 67 Km/ 42 miles.
Cycling is easy, rolling hills – pass very small village and after 40 km ride you can stop at Alarò in the placa de la vila.
Other 10 km and you will pass Lloseta and soon after Biniamar- perfect place for a lunch.
On very secondary roads you will arrive to Campanet and 2 km from the village is your accommodation, the hotel Agriturismo Monnaber Nou is a perfect base for cyclists –is considered the bike hotel of entire island- beautiful pool and spa to relax after this ride

Day 3 – LOOP TO POLLENÇA AND CAP FORMENTOR

Start your bike ride form Monnaber and ride in rural road to reach Pollença after 16 km, the town is a hub for cyclists, particularly popular with the British – Sir Bradley Wiggins has an apartment on the seafront – and is a good starting point to ease yourself into a long day in the mountains or to explore the flatter hinterland.
Across all the historic town by bike to continue the ride to Port de Pollença – from here start the challenge part of day: reach Cap de Formentor, the thin and rocky peninsula that forms the north side of the Badía de Pollença, and ends at the extreme northeast tip of the island of Mallorca.
You will ride until the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula, enjoying the spectacular scenery along the way.
The shorter option and easier ride is to visit Alcudia the ancient roman capital, instead of go to Cap Formentor.
Distance 88 Km/ 55 miles or shorter option 56 km.
Back to you hotel and enjoy the spa.

Day 4 – CAMPANET TO SÓLLER

Ready for a challenging day of biking?
Much of today’s breathtaking hilly ride follows the spine of the Tramuntana range on the remote pristine western side of Mallorca.
Distance 53 Km/ 33 miles
Keep in mind that tomorrow’s routes are even tougher so save some energy!
Start out by pedaling along narrow, well paved roads—dedicated bike routes—into the countryside past picturesque farmland, windmills and dry stone walls.
Pass little village Muscari, Selva and Caimari about 12 km to warm up your muscles.
Now start the climb that bring you to Coll de Sa Batalla and Sanctuary Lluc, it is a secular national symbol, is an unexpected oasis of tranquillity, of spirituality, of artistic heritage (the Museum), of unspoilt countryside (the Tramuntana mountains and the Botanic Garden), and of Mallorcan cuisine .
You got it but you have 33 km more!
now continue until your reach Sóller, biking near the reservoirs of Gorg Blau and Cúber.
Anyway consider once you arrive at the peak of today- 1027 meters at cum km 37 you will enjoy 16 km downhill- passing the enchanting village of Fornalutx.
For avid biker: at km 29 you can extend and take the ride downhill- road called Sa Calobra
Arrive Soller! this town lies in a valley surrounded by the grey-green hills of the Tramuntana.
Enjoy your 5 star hotel with pool in the roof and go to savour a seafood dinner at one restaurant of main square.

Day 5 – LOOP TO COLL DE SÓLLER & VALLDEMOSSA

This morning before riding you can wander Soller’s peaceful often cobbled street, in the main square the gothic church with unusual Modernista facade.
The church’s candelabra like summit is visible from all over town.
Do not miss Sala Picasso & sala Mirò at train station, permanent art exhibition.
The loop proposed is a beautiful cycle ride, exiting Sóller inland to face soon the the climb of the Coll de Sóller.
Route packs in more than 1,000m of climbing, so is a great workout without spending all day in the saddle.
Coll de Soller is famous for its 61 hairpin bends.
One at the peak you enjoy the downhill to Bunyola village, continue easy ride until final uphill that leads you to the pretty town of Valdemossa – this is perfect stop for a lunch.
Now move to coastal road towards the artists town of Deià, admire the breathtaking scenery.
Back to Soller via the Coll den Bleda.
Distance 54 Km/ 34 miles.

Day 6 – ESTELLENCS & BANYALBUFAR

After fuelling up with breakfast, grab your bike and head north.
Tranquil roads take you toward terraced hillsides, dotted with quaint hamlets and windmills tucked among olive and fruit groves.
To continue, pedal down the coast, tracing the turquoise Mediterranean past stepped mountainside, spectacular cliffs and stop you in your tracks viewpoints.
You’ll want to take time off your bike to visit the wonderful towns along this route as well, including 10th-century Banyalbufar, whose verdant marjades – stepped slopes- lead gracefully to the sea.
Farther down the road, consider taking a break in charming Estellencs, which dates back to the Middle Ages and is known for its attractive stone streets, terraced plots of farmland, picturesque port and the remains of towers built to fend off pirates.
Back on your bike, turn inland and feel the sea still following you riding through the always changing landscape until you reach Andratax.
Leave the city at your back and take a narrow sea view road so stunning, Excapdella and Galilea look perfectly built in the natural landscape, from here it needs another small effort to face the last climb, a very narrow road in the wood that ends with a breathtaking downhill to Palma.
Distance 88 Km/ 55 miles – optional shortcut 48 km/30 miles

Day 7 ADIOS

You are free to depart at your leisure after breakfast.

I rented the Canyon Gravel bike for the Strade Bianche and felt I had made the optimal choice. The booking process was very easy, Luigi is extremely kind, knowledgeable and helpful, the bikes are beautiful, perfectly maintained and adjusted to your needs and the price is more than fair compared to competitors. 5/5 stars. I would come back any time.

We had 5 excellent days of gravel riding (self guided Tuscany tour). The routes that Luigi provided us were a good mix of paved and gravel, and of course hills! The bikes (Canyon Grizl) were very nice and the luggage was always waiting for us at the next hotel. Luigi was accomodating, modifying the routes based on my requests. I would definitely recommend doing a trip with this company.

The route was wonderful, with amazing scenery and history at every turn. Our guides, Sarah and Gigi were the best. They are both very accomplished and personable riders, provided interesting history of Tuscany during the tour, and emphasied safe riding while keeping everyone within sight. They are also great dinner companions!

Luigi and BikeRiding Tuscany were an absolute pleasure to deal with. The bike was in incredible condition, delivered to my hotel and Luigi even arranged for a local mechanic to help with a small mechanical issue after my first ride. The experience from start to finish was brilliant. The communication friendly and quick. Simona was equally helpful on collection of the bicycle. I would love to join Luigi for a cycle tour as he seems very knowledgeable about the area and a good rider. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to explore Tuscany or Siena.

Exceptional self guided tour. I highly recommend for all levels (but especially for a road cyclist). This is the tour company to book with! Bikes - excellent high end bikes. I rode a Canyon Ultimate CF SL Ultegra - light and fast and we'll tuned with new tires. My wife road the e-mountain bike which she really enjoyed. Routes - beautiful. We did 50-60km a day. Rapolano de Terme, Pienza, Montalcino, Siena and Castellini in Chianti. Varied terrain, vineyards, great climbs and beautiful medieval towns. Extremely well thought out. All on quiet roads. Hotels - all 3 and 4 stars with loads of character. The ones with pools were our favourites. All of the hotels were able to let us check in very early (it was hot so we rode as early as we could manage). Hotels all came with breakfast. Really great. Service - Luigi was a gem. Easy to contact, quick to communicate (before we came and during the tour) and passionate about cycling. He gave us a lot of great recommendations to help maximize our tour. I cannot say enough positive things about this trip and Bike Riding Tuscany. This was truly memorable. Highly recommended.

I was on a trip around the world and stopped in Italy. A friend recommended BikeRidingTuscany to me for an unforgettable experience and it didn’t let down. They planned a custom 1 day gravel ride for me that took us from Rapolano Terme to Sienna and back. The pace was perfect and they were gracious with any requests for breaks or stops for water/food. I enjoyed myself so much that I extended my stay to do a run on the gravel amongst the beautiful sunflowers. If you’re adventurous, and seeking some safe fun riding, this is your team
