This Gravel bike tour Siena to Rome tour was born immediately after the spring COVID lockdown in 2020.
Simona and I had been thinking about this tour for three years but were always too busy during the “normal” working seasons.
Beginning of September 2020, as soon as the lockdown was over we took advantage and left from Siena to Rome!!
We equipped our bikes with the luggage racks and spent 4 amazing day ride in complete freedom.
Cycling on paved, gravel roads and some else on the Francigena way.
Gravel Bike tour Siena to Rome is plan on the most beautiful itinerary: from the Chianti area to the Orcia Valley crossing village like Pienza, Pitigliano, Tuscania, Sutri, Sorano until to Rome .
Arrived in Rome cycling on path by the Tevere river, ending our tour in Vaticano square… this was incredibly exciting!!!
Now we like to share this amazing adventure in an unforgettable tour.
DAY BY DAY
Day One — Bike Fitting
You will check into your accommodation in Siena.
After the bike fitting you can spend the rest of the day in Siena we’ll have dinner together.
Day Two — Siena to Rapolano Terme
We will enjoy a very nice ride in the Chianti area and discover Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti e Gaiole in Chianti.
We’ll also visit Brolio Castle and ride on the Eroica road.
Day Three – Rapolano Terme to Pitigliano
Il could be a challenging day!
We will take direction to Pienza, short break to visit the small town and eat the best gelato!!
After we will enjoy downhill to Radicofani and discover several Etruscan settlements areas and necropolis between Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano (our final destination of the day).
Day Four — Pitigliano to Capranica
We will “taste” the real up and down roads hills of Tuscany.
This is a challenging day ride on secondary road in the middle of the “wall of Tufo” until the town of Tuscania, a beautiful Etruscan village surrounded by numerous beautiful Castles.
Our destination is Capranica surrounded by thousands of hazelnut trees, the first country in Italy for hazelnut production.
Day Five — Capranica to Rome
Today is the final ride to Rome.
From Capranica we’ll enjoy the way to Sutri, a small but very nice village.
We’ll mostly ride on the Francigena way until Rome. Last part of the ride will be on a cycle path that will take us to Piazza del Vaticano in complete safety. Here we are in Rome!!!
Day Six — Visit Rome
We‘ll spend the day to visit and enjoy Rome!!
Day Seven — Back to Siena
After breakfast we will drive you back to Siena train Station. We’re always sad to leave, but we know that the emotions that we have shared with you on this Tour will continue to enrich our lives in the years ahead!
